NFRDI is planning to hold "2009 Fishery Recovery Plan Workshop" in Gyeongju, Korea on 10-11 December, 2009, which are attended by scientists, policy makers and fishers. The fishery recovery plan is aiming to conserve and manage fisheries which are heavily damaged by overexploitation, IUU fishing and pollution. The plan is designed for a comprehensive survey and analysis on government policies on fishing and fishing ground management, fishery recovery and other fishery policies conducted from 2006. The workship is expected to see recommendations and plans on fishery recovery of 12 fish species including yellow croaker, sandfish, blue crab, small octopus etc. based on scientific survey and assessment on those species. The recovery efforts have been successful this year in leading the fishery resources to surpass targeted levels in blue crab, yellow croaker and sandfish. It is also expected that filefish, small octopus and cod will reach the targeted fishery recovery levels. What is discussed at this workshop will serve as raw data for fishery recovery policy of Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery.
