East Sea Fisheries Research Institute

National Institute of Fisheries Science
The head of the East Sea Fisheries Research Institute at the NIFS

Hello.

I am the head of the East Sea Fisheries Research Institute at the National Institute of Fisheries Science.

The fishery industry is an economic activity based on science and technology that overcomes the sea. In order to stably supply safe marine products to the people and realize a sustainable fishery industry, the role and mission of the Institute of Fisheries Science and Technology, which is in charge of science and technology, is inevitably great.

In particular, fisheries science and technology research on the East Sea, which is a home of fishery resources, a workplace of fisherfolk, and provides a place of respite for the people, is very important not only for the development of the fishery industry but also for the revitalization of the local economy.

Currently, the realization of a sustainable fishery industry is threatened in the East Sea due to climate change and overfishing, resulting in a decrease in fishery resources and destruction of the marine ecosystem, which intensifies the instability of fishing income. The East Sea Fisheries Research Institute is making great efforts in researching the marine and fishing grounds of the East Sea, evaluating and managing fishery resources in the East Sea including Dokdo, developing aquaculture technology for specialty breeds to stabilize fisherfolk's income, developing resource management type fishing gear, and researching whales. We will continue to do our best as the East Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the National Institute of Fisheries Science to lead the development of fisheries science in Korea.

We ask for your support and encouragement.

Thank you.
