NFRDI Achieved Year-round Shrimp Farming with 30-50 Times Higher Productivity

● West Sea Fisheries Research Institute(WSFRI), NFRDI opens on Wednesday March 15, 2010 a seminar on year-round eco-friendly & high productive organic shrimp culture, which is combined with harvest activities.

● The event will be attended by NFRDI scientists, local government officials, university professors and aquaculture farmers.

● Nested on the temperate region, Korea have so far conducted once a year shrimp culture, in which farmers sow shrimp seeds in May and harvest crops in October. WSFRI\'s recently developed "Eco-friendly & high productive organic shrimp farming" however broke open a way to see shrimp harvests around the year.

● The newly adopted culture system is designed to maximize activating organic matters, purifying the rearing water without water exchange. With the environmentally friendly method, farmers can expect no-use of anti-biotics and no-outbreak of viral diseases.

● Farming in the winter also became possible by utilizing a renewable energy of underground water heat, kicking off a new era of year-round shrimp farming.
