A
poster which shows a series of subtropical fishes living in the coast of Jeju,
Korea was released. Subtropical Fisheries Research Center, NFRDI printed the PR
poster of subtropical fishes of Jeju island and is plan to distribute it to
fishers and other fishery-related organizations. The
fishes featured on the poster were observed during regular underwater surveys
conducted by the Subtropical Fisheries Research Center of NFRDI. Among
the species on the poster are butterfly fish (Pterois lunalata), clownfish or anemone fish, neon damselfish (Pomacentrus coelestis), black spotted
boxfish (Ostracion cubicus) and
three-spot bumbug (Dascyllus trimaculatus),
of which pictures and ecological descriptions are printed on the poster. The
material is expected to serve well for educational purposes. The
surveys indicate that the subtropical fishes occur twice as frequently as 5
years ago with a wider variety of species. The recent phenomenon makes it clear
the coast of Jeju is experiencing an accelerated rate of water temperature rise
due to climate change. The
Subtropical Fisheries Research Institute is planned to print more posters to
introduce subtropical invertebrates and seaweeds of the coast of Jeju. It is
hoped that these data will contribute to developing measures to better manage
the subtropical fisheries resources and mitigate the climate change impact on
fisheries. |
