The National Insitute of Fisheries Science (NIFS) said that paralytic shellfish toxins in mussles in  the coastal waters of Gamcheon, Busan, exceeded the allowable standard.

NIFS also said it will strengthen its investigation with local governments once a month or more into waters where paralytic shellfish toxins are detected .

SON Kwang-tae, the director of Food Safety and Processing Research Division, said "Paralytic shellfish toxins are not removed even when shellfish are heated and cooked. Special care should be takne not to collect and consume shellfish in waters where paralytic shellfish toxins exceed the acceptable standards."
