The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) reported that the biodegradable net twine developed by NIFS's technology isling in U.S. Since 2002, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS) have tried to protect fisheries resources from ghost fishing, which makes fish killed by discarded net in the ocean. In order to resolve the problem, MOF and NIFS have developed biodegradable fishing net and distributed it to fisherfolk since 2007.
