NIFS said it developed the sorting machine for shrimp caught by fishing boats. The automatic machine is designed for shrimp sorting, which is expected to address the lack of labor force at the site and significantly reduce the fishery cost. The shrimp caught in the West Sea from May to June of every year, including flower shrimp (Trachysalambria Curvirostris). are used as a raw material for salt-fermented fish, boiled-dried shrimp, snacks, etc. The product value of shrimp increases when they are sorted, not being mixed with other fish. In the stow net fishery, where flower shrimp are mainly caught, fishmen have to sort the shrimp by hand as they are caught with other species such as anchovy. Given the situation, the West Sea Fisheries Research Institute of NIFS developed the sorting machine consisting of multiple layers of sorting plate at regular intervals and motors attached to the both sides, which makes the catch move on the plate by generating vibration, resulting in sorted and classified catch by size. |
