NIFS revamped its structure for research-oriented organization and full-fledged implementation of innovative research strategy

To preemptively brace for the environmental changes at home and abroad, including climate change, NIFS conducted a reorganization in August 1st, 2023. With the aim of transforming its structure to the research-oriented one, it newly established Ocean Climate and Environment Research Department, Marine Environment Research Division, Subtropical Fisheries Research Institute, and Seaweed Research Institute.

With the establishment of Ocean Climate and Environment Research Department at its HQ, NIFS becomes capable of predicting climate change-driven changes and hazard in marine environment; expanding the comprehensive research as well as the role of tial flat as Blue Carbon; and integrating research on climate, marine, and environment, which results in NIFS being in overall control of research on climate change, responding to natural disasters, and carbon neutrality in a unified system.

In line with the reorganization, NIFS will set and push ahead with the new 'strategy for innovative research to improve research productivity', consisting of three(3) strategies and six(6) priorities.


* Three(3) strategies: Establishment of creative culture and research environment, Enforcement of innovative research and regulation for the future, Fostering competitive talents

* Six(6) priorities: Formation of research environment for creative research, Establishment of organizational culture for immersive research, Introduction of mission-oriented research & Improvement of verification at planning stage, Enforcement of research on public-private partnership(PPP) and collaboration, Better internal and external academic exchanges & Expansion of international joint research, Support for researcher capacity building
