NIFS announced that beginnning October it embarked on the enhancement of on-site technical support and distribution of microalgae to brace for the drastic demand hike. Microalgae are feeds for shellfish artificial seed production including oyster.

By revamping its organizational structure on August 1, NIFS newly established its shellfish task force (TF) team at the Southeast Sea Fisheries Research Institute of NIFS for capacity building to conduct domestic shellfish research, including the stable supply of shellfish seed. 

The TF team, taking into consideration of on-site demands, conducts intensively research on 'microalgae culture technology, artificial seed production for useful clam like oyster, management technology of mother clams for seed production, etc.'
