On December 22, President WOO, Dong-sik of the National Institute of Fisheries Science visited fish farms in Tongyeong-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea and inspected the curent status of low water temperature response*. *Low water temperature warning system: an "Attention" notice is issued 7 days prior to a "Caution", which is issued when water temperatures reach 4℃ or drastic changes in water temperature (3℃ lower than the other day, 2℃ lower than average temperature), and a "Warning" notice, which is issued when water temperatures are under 4℃ lasting more than 3 days, is issued 3 days after the Caution (5℃ lower than the other day, 3℃ lower than average temperature). Given that the first Attention notice of this winter was issued on December 19, the president had a direct communication forum and the duty council in response to low water temperature via video-conference at the situation room of NIFS headquarters on December 20, and agreed to act promptly by setting up a task force team and strengthening the connections with the site. The task force team will support △re-examination of emergency warning system, maintenance of close communication with local governments and fishermen by utilizing social networks △ enhancement of on-site training and preemptive response to the sea area by region △ damage recovery. |
