Public-private partnership building for enhancement of shrimp culture competitiveness

On Feb. 27, NIFS said it had a on-site conference in Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do for the development and sustainable development of shrimp culture industry. 

In the conference, there were around 20 stakeholders in shrimp culture, including the West Sea Fisheries Research Institute of NIFS, three fisheries research institutes (Gyeonggi, Chungnam, and Jeonbuk), the Korean federation of shrimp culture, shrimp seed division of Korea Marine Fish, etc. 

The West Sea Fisheries Research Institute held the conference to forge public-private partnership for the utilization enhancement of R&D achievements and sustainable support. 

The participants talked about the past and current situation of shrimp culture industry and projected its future. Moreover, they shared a common understanding that the urgent need to conduct research on disease-resistant shrimp seeds and diversification. 

Having discussed the importance of public-private partnership and solidarity for active aquatic organism diseases control, they also agreed to expand and strengthen mutual cooperation by regularly holding meetings.

The people involved in shrimp culture industry expressed their willingness to actively cooperate with relevant research institutes and make best efforts to expand the base of shrimp culture. Shrimp is the representatvie seafood of west coast of Korea.
