NIFS announced that it signed a MOU in Jeju Island on May 2 with the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences (NIMS) for the development of scientific technology for marine environment, oceanic climate and weather. Under the accelerated climate change, changes including rising water temperature, acidification, deoxygenation, etc., occur in oceans, which has been directly affecting not only marine ecosystem and biodiversity, but also human lives. Against this backdrop, the two institutes saw eye to eye on the necessity of practical joint response to climate change, and agreed to advance the technology for monitoring and forecasting climate change. The MOU is about exchange of techniques for monitoring & observing oceanic climate and environment, and for data processing; research on information sharing of climate change scenarios and its utilization; AI-based oceans and weather forecast; and joint utilization of research facilities and equipment. |
