At 2:00 p.m. on the fifth day of August, NIFS raised the level of high water temperature warning in the mid and south coastal areas of the Yellow Sea and Garorim Bay(Chungnam) to a ‘warning’ and ‘caution’ level, respectively. It also issued a ‘pre-warning’ level of high water temperature for the whole coastal areas in the East Sea. *(Pre-caution) water temperature reaching 25℃ →(Caution) water temperature reaching 28℃ → (Warning) water temperature lasting 28℃ more than 3 days The western coastal areas have seen the distinctive increase in water temperature under scorching heat. In eastern coastal areas, there is the possibility to experience repeated drastic ups and downs in water temperature temporarily because of the repeated occurrence and disappearance of cold water mass. Moreover, the eastern areas are urged to take precautions on drastic changes in water temperature under the change in wind direction. As of August 5, the tendency of water temperature increase has been continued, like the ‘warning’, ‘caution’, and ‘pre-warning’ coastal areas show water temperature of 28.3~29.6℃, around 27.0℃, and 21.9~27.0℃, respectively.
