NIFS announced on September 11 that it published the "Annual Report for Climate Change Trends in Fisheries, 2024", encompassing the impact on marine and fisheries that climate change has as well as the projection and countermeasure study.

NIFS has published the report every year, and the 2024 report contains 2023’s climate change science and policy issues, climate change impact on the Korean seas and fisheries industry as well as its projection, countermeasure study.

In particular, the report has a special feature: climate change and volatility in fisheries resources an analysis of climate-change driven impact on fisheries industry, including changes of fish species, declined catch, etc.

The report says that the number of warm current and subtropical fish species has continuously increased by accelerated climate change, which has major impacts on fisheries resources and fishing activity.

The 2024 report is available for download on the NIFS e-library website (https://www.nifs.go.kr/library).
