NIFS announced that it, on March 4 (Tue.), opened the situation office for systematic and efficient operation of the review and assessment system for aquafarming license, which is effective this year. 

*The review and assessment system for aquafarming license is a decision-making system of whether to re-license for the systematic management and sustainable production of fisheries products by undertaking a comprehensive assessment of both fisheries environment and management prior to the expiration date of subject aquafarms. 

Having located in the Marine Environment Research Building of NIFS, the situation office aims to provide fishermen and stakeholders with information on the assessment system in place and to listen to difficulties from the fishermen side and actively solve the operational problems that can occur in the process of review and assessment. 

The situation office provides a wide range of services such as ▲to consult and assist fishermen and other receivers subject to the system with information provision, ▲to aid the operation committee, and ▲to monitor how the assessment proceeds.

Particularly, the 'integrated information management system of aquaculture', available on the internet, is expected to increase efficienceis in operating the assessment system. 

The President Choi, Yong-seok said, "NIFS will carry out the review and assessment system for aquafarming license without a hitch through strengthened communications between the situation office, fishermen, and local governments." The President added, "We will also carry out the system in a reliable and transparent manner for the sustainable production of farmed fisheries products as well as the systematic management of aquafarms."
